How payment receipts work

Payment receipts give clients a record of every charge — here's how to get them turned on and where to find one

Written by Agatha Beise

Payment receipts give your clients a record of what they were charged and when. Each receipt carries a receipt number, so a client can reference a specific payment when they ask about it.

Getting receipts turned on

Payment receipts are enabled by the Superset team, not from your settings. Email [email protected] and ask to have them turned on for your account.

Tell us at the same time if invoices and receipts should go to an address other than your account email — a bookkeeper, for example.

Finding a specific receipt

  1. Open Payments.

  2. Find the payment you're looking for.

  3. Choose View receipt.

Notes & best practices

  • Each receipt has a Receipt #. Ask clients to quote it when they email about a charge — much faster than working from a date and an amount.

  • Refunds generate their own record, so a refunded payment shows both the original charge and the refund.

  • Payment receipts are separate from message read receipts, which are a Messages setting you control yourself.

FAQ

Can I turn receipts on myself?

No. Email [email protected] and the team will enable them for your account.

Do clients get a receipt automatically?

Once receipts are enabled, yes. Each charge generates one.

Can receipts go to my accountant instead?

Yes. Mention the address when you ask support to enable receipts.

How does a client find an old receipt?

Ask them for the Receipt #, then look it up under Payments and choose View receipt.
