How to get around the Payments tab

What each section of Payments is for — payments, customers, payouts, offers, and settings

Written by Agatha Beise

Everything about money in Superset lives under Payments. This article maps the sections so you know which one answers your question, and links to the detail where there's more to say.

Payments

Every charge on your account, newest first. Open any payment to see its full record, including the client, the amount, and the status.

Start here when you need one specific transaction. See also Payment types in Superset and How to process refunds to clients.

Customers

Everyone who pays you, across plans, products, and one-off charges. Open a customer to see their whole billing history in one place.

This is usually the fastest way to answer "why was I charged?" — the customer record shows everything at once, instead of you working backwards through individual payments.

A customer isn't the same as a client. Someone who bought a product without being coached by you appears here, but isn't on your client list.

Payouts

The money leaving Superset and arriving in your bank account, on Stripe's schedule. See How payouts work and Why is my payout showing a negative amount?

Offers

Payment offers you've sent to clients and their status. See How to accept a payment offer.

Settings

How you charge: fee handling, and who pays them. See How to pass payment fees to clients.

Notes & best practices

  • For a billing question from a client, start in Customers rather than Payments. One record answers more than a list of charges.

  • Check a customer's record before cancelling anything. It shows everything the person is paying for, so you don't stop the wrong thing.

  • Someone listed as a customer with no successful payment usually has a failed or pending charge. Worth following up.

  • For revenue on one product only, open that product and use its own payments view instead of filtering here.

FAQ

Where do I look when a client asks about a charge?

Customers. Open their record to see everything they're paying for and their full history.

Why is someone a customer but not a client?

They've paid you for something — a product, for example — without being coached by you.

Where do I see revenue for one product?

Open that product and use its own payments view.

I don't have a Payments tab. Why?

Payments can be hidden for accounts that collect money outside Superset. Contact [email protected].
