Alternate exercises give clients additional exercise options if they cannot complete the prescribed movement.

You can add them from Programs → Exercises on desktop. Exercises in Superset’s default library already include three alternates by default. Custom exercises need alternates added manually.

Follow these steps

  1. Go to Programs → Exercises.

  2. Open the exercise you want to update, or search for it.

  3. Scroll to the bottom of the exercise page.

  4. Click Add alternate.

  5. Select the alternate exercises you want to add.

  6. Confirm by clicking Add alternates.

  7. Scroll back up and click Save to save the exercise update.

Notes & best practices

  • Exercises in Superset’s default library already include three alternates by default.

  • You only need to add alternates manually for custom exercises you created in Superset.

  • Add alternates that are close substitutes for the original movement so clients can swap without changing the workout intent too much.
